TYPES OF SURGICAL PROCEDURES
- Endoscopy – A nonsurgical procedure in which a physician uses a flexible tube with a light and camera attached to see images of the digestive tract on a monitor
- Laparoscopy – A surgeon inserts a long-narrow surgical instrument with a camera on the tip through a small incision. While watching a video monitor, the surgeon performs surgery using surgical tools inserted through other small incisions.
- Open surgery – A surgeon makes an incision large enough to access the area in which surgery is performed.
- Radiofrequency ablation – An endoscopic technique in which diseased tissue is exposed to heat energy and destroyed
