Neighborhood & Built Environment

You Matter!

Health starts in our families, neighborhoods, schools and jobs.

Did you know that your quality of life started when you were born and is impacted by where you live, learn, work and play? Your environment, which includes the neighborhood where you live and the parks where your children play, can directly impact overall health and well-being.

Many people in the United States live in neighborhoods with high rates of violence, unsafe air or water, and other health and safety risks. Some are even exposed to harmful elements at work. Improving neighborhoods and environments that promote health and safety is essential to fostering quality of life opportunities.

The Social Determinants of Health information is from Healthy People 2030, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. For more information, visit: https://health.gov/healthypeople/objectives-and-data/social-determinants-health
