Volunteer at HCHC Volunteer at SEIRMC Volunteer Virtually

A few ways our volunteers contribute their time and talents to making Southeast Iowa a healthier, happier place:

INFORMATION DESK

Volunteers at the Information Desk provide the first, friendly face to visitors who come through the main entrance at our three hospital locations in Fort Madison, Mount Pleasant, and West Burlington. They escort those unfamiliar with our facility and deliver floral arrangements and cards around the campuses.

GIFT SHOP

Individuals spend a few hours a month assisting customers with purchases of gift items, flowers, and cards.

LIFELINE

Since 1984, Lifeline is a personal medical emergency response system that allows clients the independence to stay in their homes longer than might otherwise be possible. The client wears a button or necklace to press if help is needed. Volunteers are needed to assist with the installation and maintenance of the units, as well as teach new subscribers how to use them.

PATIENT/FAMILY AMBASSADORS

Patient/Family Ambassadors provide a high-impact volunteer service to patients and their families. Working as part of a team to improve customer service and go beyond the expectations of the patients and families; these volunteers work to provide a five-star experience to our patients and their families. Every patient, every time.

PARK PLACE

Park Place is a progressive long-term care unit with a home-like, active environment where the focus is on living a full life.

SHIIP

Volunteers are trained to help Iowans enroll in or make changes to their Medicare plans. The state’s Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) is a free, confidential service that provides unbiased information to help people make decisions about Medicare and other health coverage.

SHIIP counselors help clients:

  • Enroll in and understand Medicare
  • Enroll in and understand Medicare supplements, including Part D prescription drug coverage
  • Sign up for Social Security benefits
  • Qualify for free and reduced drug plans from pharmaceutical companies
  • Qualify for low-income assistance from Medicare and Medicaid

Virtual

Virtual volunteers do so much to make a difference with our patients without having to leave your home. There are several ways to participate, such as:

  • Crocheting/knitting lap blankets for Klein Center Nursing Home
  • Sewing Prayer shawls for anyone needing comfort
  • Sewing quilts for Hospice patients
  • Sewing small pillowcases for a comfort pillow given to any patient needing extra comfort
  • Sewing "ouch pouch" for women who have mastectomy surgery
  • Sewing walker or wheelchair bags and adult dining scarves for Klein Center Nursing Home and Inpatient Rehabilitation Units.

About the Auxiliary

Comprised of volunteers passionate about making a difference in individual's lives and healthcare at large, Great River Health is proud to support the dedicated efforts of The Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and Friends of Henry County Health Center.

Both organizations strive to brighten patient's days and fundraise for healthcare scholarships.

The Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Auxiliary

The Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Auxiliary members volunteer throughout the hospital, as well as raise funds to support hospital projects and provide scholarships. Each year, the Auxiliary awards scholarships to students who are pursuing health-related careers. Auxiliary members volunteer their time in the hospital gift shop, as well, with all proceeds used to support the Auxiliary's projects and scholarships.

SEIRMC Auxiliary Application

Friends of Henry County Health Center

The HCHC Auxiliary was formed in 1962 to promote the mission of Henry County Health Center through activities, programs, and fundraising approved by the membership and the HCHC Board of Trustees. The Auxiliary transitioned to Friends of Henry County Health Center in 2017. Our $5 dues paid yearly are used to support health career scholarships, equipment purchases, and numerous other community and hospital programs. Every fall we hold a Soup Supper to raise money for the healthcare scholarships. Members are asked to help with this once-a-year fundraiser by either donating a few hours of their time, a food or baked goods donation, or a small monetary donation. Other fundraisers include The Nutman Co. Sale, Midwest Book and Gift Fair as well as revenue from the HCHC Gift Shop.

You don’t have to commit a large amount of time to the Friends of HCHC; just being a member shows your support. However, if you want to get involved, there are numerous opportunities to do so.

All Friends members are invited to our monthly meetings, which are held on the second Monday of every month at 10:00 a.m. in the Harvest Room at Henry County Health Center.

Interested in joining Friends of HCHC? Call 319-385-6524 for more information or mail your $5 dues to Friends of Henry County Health Center, 407 S. White Street, Mt. Pleasant, IA 52641.
