Pre-Diabetes

What is Pre-Diabetes?

Prediabetes is a condition where your blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as having type 2 diabetes. Without medical intervention, prediabetes can progress to type 2 diabetes in approximately 10 years or less. Prediabetes can cause the same damages to the organs, such as your heart, kidneys, nerves, and eyes, like type 2 diabetes.

Who Should Consider Getting Screened?

  • Men & women 35 to 70.

Why Screening is Important

  • During your annual exam, be sure to request a fasting glucose test - a blood test that measures the amount of sugar in your blood.

  • Prediabetes means you have higher than normal blood glucose levels, but not high enough for a type-2 diabetes diagnosis.
